Jeep confirmed at the Los Angeles Auto Show that a new model will replace the compact SUV Cherokee in 2025, bringing a hybrid powertrain.

Although the brand’s CEO, Antonio Filosa, stated that the new model will feature a hybrid powertrain, it has not yet been specified whether it will be a traditional hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, like the Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe.

The Cherokee, which was once one of the brand’s most popular models, was discontinued after the 2023 model year. Filosa had previously mentioned that a new D-segment SUV was in development, leaving open the possibility that the Cherokee name could be reused for this model. If the name is revived, it will be the first time a Cherokee comes with a hybrid powertrain.

Jeep currently offers two plug-in hybrid models in the U.S., the Wrangler 4xe and the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Filosa also highlighted that the platform of the new model will allow for the development of a fully electric version in the future, should demand for this type of vehicle grow.
